About Us

Health Before Beauty (HBB) is a holistic company and online information service that was founded by nutritionist Karen Fischer. Karen believes that health comes from within, from a body that is nourished and valued. Beauty follows.

About Karen Fischer (B.H.Sc., Dip. Nutrition)

Karen Fischer is an Australian award-winning author (The Healthy Skin Diet) and a qualified nutritionist with extensive experience in television, radio and print. She has worked as a contributor for the Sun-Herald (S lift out), Wellbeing Magazine, Practical Parenting, Madison Magazine and several New Zealand and UK publications, and wrote a monthly column for Cosmopolitan Magazine in between penning books.

Karen has a Bachelor of Health Science Degree and a diploma in nutrition and specialises in two key areas of health: beauty nutrition, which includes everything from eczema to anti-ageing information, and she can get any child – even the super-fussy ones – to eat their veggies (yes... including spinach and maybe even Brussels sprouts).

Karen has written three successful health books including a bestseller, an award-winner, and one that inspired a Hansel and Gretel-style musical, which may change the face of how nutrition is taught to school children in Queensland. Her latest book is Healthy Family, Happy Family.

"Hi guys,
2010 is set to be a fantastic year. It’s a time to set new goals, reflect on the past decade (where did the time go?!!) and really prioritise what is most valued in your life. For me this means spending more time with my family and cooking lots of healthy meals.

Karen has also conducted health and nutrition presentations at schools. The Teen Health Education Program is aimed to educate both children and parents on how their eating choices can directly affect overall health and wellbeing.

FEEDBACK on the Teen Health Education Program:

Students from All Saints Anglican School, Gold Coast, Qld:

"I loved it how Karen really inspired us to try to eat more healthy foods and she did it in a way that seemed fun and pretty easy to do."

"Karen gave us great info about nutrition but it was like she was one of the girls... not like a teacher type. She seemed to understand where we were coming from."

Michael Bartlett, Director of International Education, All Saints Anglican School, Qld:

"Karen's nutrition talks were highly beneficial for the students at All Saints. She gave practical and achievable advice to students that related to the goals they wanted to accomplish such as tips for clear skin and food to energize the brain for study and tests. The students responded with enthusiasm and found Karen approachable and someone they could relate to easily."
